Provenance: Frances Althea Trevor manuscripts, Crosswood manuscripts [16th century – late 19th century].
Description: NLW archival record: ‘A copy, in an unknown 18th century hand, of the trio sonata no. 2 in F (1747) by William Boyce in an arrangement for harpsichord. The adaptation involves the addition of ornaments in the 1st movement, the omission of the 2nd movement adagio, and the deletion of the 2nd violin part from the 3rd and 4th movements. Formerly known as Crosswood 294.’
Titles: K11 is titled ‘Del Sig.r Dom.o Scarlatti’.
Copyist: The Scarlatti items are all in the same hand, which appears to be that of a professional or a very keen amateur.
Comments: The collection is made up of primarily English and Italian composers and Händel. The sequence of K11-K40 also appears in Roseingrave which may have been the exemplar for this copy (although variants appear to have been introduced by the copyist).
Date: No accurate date can be given; based on the contents we estimate this collection was largely compiled in the mid-eighteenth century.
