Dresden

Description

Provenance: Former owner: Tonkünstler-Verein zu Dresden (1879).

Description: A collection of seven fascicles of keyboard music from the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries.

Title: Scarlatti’s K182 is titled ‘N.o 25. Sonata | Dominico Scarlatti’. A later hand has added ‘1683-1757’ in pencil.

Copyist: Carl Mehner (1811-1890), a Dresden-based copyist who also worked with Robert Schumann and Richard Wagner.

Comments: Despite several articulation markings which may have been introduced by the copyist it is apparent from the variant analysis that the Dresden copy of K182 belongs to the central European tradition stemming from Haffner 1.

Date: This collection is dated c1860-1890 on RISM. Since it is already present in the 1879 catalogue of the Tonkünstler-Verein zu Dresden (as mentioned on RISM), this indicates that the collection was compiled sometime before 1879.
