Description: Eight pages (four folios) of 310x210mm containing keyboard music by Alberti and Scarlatti (K2 and K36).

Watermark: According to Yáñez Navarro 2015Yáñez Navarro, Celestino. 2015. ‘Nuevas aportaciones para el estudio de las sonatas de Domenico Scarlatti: los manuscritos del Archivo de Música de las catedrales de Zaragoza’. PhD dissertation, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. , the paper contains a watermark which resembles a monstrance alongside the name of the town of Sant Celoni (T S SALONI) which is located in the Vallès Oriental region. Yáñez Navarro further reports that it corresponds to a watermark identified by Oriol Valls i Subirà dated 1752, and that the paper was produced by the Morera family in the episcopal city of Vic (about sixty kilometres west of Girona). Three similar watermarks, all datable to the 1750s, can be found in the FILHISP database.

Titles: Scarlatti is referred to as ‘Escarlati’ in K2. ‘Alegro’ is given as tempo marking for both pieces.

Copyist: The entire collection is clearly copied by a musician for their own use; perhaps Padre José Lamarca himself?

Comments: The copy of K36 shows a certain degree of kinship with Venice 1742, but it is evident that Venice was not the exemplar used for the Girona copy based on the presence of other variants which likely stem from an exemplar which did not survive. Shorthand silcrow signs are used in K36 to avoid writing out repetitions.

Date: Datable to the mid-eighteenth century based on the watermark evidence.
