London 2473

Description

Provenance: Unknown. Currently in the Gerald Coke Handel Collection of the Foundling Museum.

Description: A manuscript collection of miscellaneous pieces by Handel, Hasse, Scarlatti, and Jones. Included also are Scarlatti’s K32 and K42. See also the description in the Foundling Museum catalogue.

Titles: ‘Aria del Sig.r Scarlati’; ‘Minuetto del Sig.r Scarlati’.

Copyists: According to the Foundling Museum’s catalogue, this collection is in two hands: hand one (pp. 1-38) and hand two (pp. 39-50). Both of the Scarlatti items are in hand two.

Comments: If the Scarlatti items were indeed copied from a printed edition (Roseingrave or Boivin), this would indicate that they were copied after 1739.

Date: The Foundling Museum suggests a range of c1730-1760.
