Provenance: Originally part of the collection of Adeodatus Josephus Philippus du Beine de Malchamps (1717-1803), also known as Baron du Beine (or Baron von DuBeine). Du Beine’s library was auctioned by his son in 1813, and was at least partly acquired by Archduke Rudolph of Austria (1788-1831).
Description: An oblong manuscript copy (223x310mm) containing six sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti.
Rastrum: Stave size: 11mm; stave distance: 11-18mm; total stave span: 179mm.
Watermark: Tre lune motif (selenometry 76/17), the letter ‘A’, and a clover leaf. Similar to watermark 7 in Tyson’s catalogue (1768) and to watermark P37A (1768; 1773) in the ‘Paper and Copyists in Viennese Opera Scores’ dataset.
Titles: The title page reads ‘VI / Sonate / per il / Clavi=Cembalo / Del Sig.r Domenico Scarlati’. The sonatas themselves are numbered sequentially.
Copyist: A single professional Viennese copyist. Choi notes that the copyist of this volume is the same as the copyist of Vienna Q15114.
Comments: All six sonatas in Q15115 appear in the same order in Vienna Q11432.
Date: Like Q15114, Choi dates Q15115 to c1760. The watermark evidence for Q15115 seems to point more convincingly to the 1760s than that of Q15114.
